The National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing of Hungary is an independent budgetary body with countrywide jurisdiction, under the control of the Minister of Interior of Hungary. At present, within the territory of Hungary, 8 regional directorates and 24 branch offices serve the significant number of foreign national clients of the authority. The National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing of Hungary is the countrywide competent authority responsible for cases related to the entry, stay, residence of foreign nationals and acting on asylum applications. In addition, the authority is responsible for making decisions in the cases of foreign nationals who are illegally staying in Hungary or of foreign nationals committing other offences, as well as for organising the repatriation of foreign nationals under the obligation to leave the territory of Hungary.
